Acceptance to Teacher Education

As a teacher education candidate, you will be held to a high standard. Once you have met the requirements, you are eligible for admission into the Teacher Education program and may submit your online applications for practicum and student teaching field experiences. You must be officially accepted prior to taking Methods courses, and to be eligible for a practicum and student teaching.  You must meet the requirements listed below to be accepted into the Teacher Education Program. 
 
In addition, acceptance into the Teacher Education program is a prerequisite for most of the methods courses you will take during your pre-professional semester and before applying for a Practicum or Student Teaching field experience.  
 
When you have completed the acceptance requirements, your name will automatically go before the Teacher Education Committee at their next regularly scheduled monthly meeting. The Teacher Education Committee will review your file and determine final acceptance into the Teacher Education Program. You will receive a letter informing you of your acceptance status.
 

Admission to Teacher Education

Candidates will apply for admission to the Teacher Education Program after successfully meeting all EDUC2420 Entry Workshop requirements; application for admission will be completed as part of course requirements.  Acceptance into the program is approved by the Teacher Education Committee. 

EDUC2420 Course requirements:

  • Complete an entrance assessment and a preparation plan if required.
  • Complete the GSOE technology and diversity surveys
  • Submit a graduation plan approved by their advisor
  • Submit one professional recommendation

 

Before acceptance to Teacher Education, applicants must:

  • Earn and maintain a minimum Graceland University GPA of 2.75
  • Earn a grade of “C” or higher in all education courses
  • Successful completion of EDUC1300 Introduction to Education OR an approved Introduction to Education and EDUC1410 Clinical Experience Lab
  • Submit and disclose revoked or suspended education-related licenses (e.g. para-educator, coaching, etc.) and/or any criminal convictions
  • Undergo periodic state background checks
  • Submit two additional professional recommendations (for a total of 3; two of which must come from GSOE faculty)
