Student Teaching FAQ

You are required to submit a journal every week to your supervisor. Each journal needs to include in the heading the week you re submitting it for.  (for example, Journal Week 1, Journal Week 2, etc. )  We advise you to keep reflective notes throughout each day to use when you write this reflective journal. You need to make sure that you correlate the INTASC principles to what you are doing and seeing in the classroom, and include the references in your journal. You should address two - three INTASC principles each week, and all 10 INTASC principles by the end of the student teaching period.

No. Iowa Code requires that a person without a teaching license (a student teacher) cannot be paid.  

Placement (Local or Distance?)

Normally, placements are made in schools within a 40-mile radius of Lamoni or Independence. You must make this decision BEFORE completing the application. If you request and are placed in a school district outside the 40 mile radius, you may incur an additional mileage reimbursement fee for your university supervisor.
