9th annual Emerging Educators Academy

The Outstanding Iowa Educators of the Iowa Department of Education, along with the Iowa State Education Association, and Drake University School of Education, are hosting the 9th annual Emerging Educators Academy. This Academy will take place on January 20th, 2024 at Drake University.

The Academy is for all first through third year teachers as well as their mentors; and pre-service teacher-prep students. We encourage teams of beginning teachers and mentors to attend together as this event will connect, elevate, and celebrate all participants.

This year's theme is, "Elevating Teachers, Elevating Learning." The Academy will feature break-out sessions on building classroom culture and community, social emotional learning, engagement strategies, fostering a love of teaching, ethics, educator wellness, effective communication strategies, and many more. We will also have an award-winning Teacher Panel of Iowa Teachers.

This year we anticipate having the honor to present a very special keynote speaker, Rebecka Peterson, 2023 National Teacher of the Year. Her focus? Student relationships and finding the good in every day. Come prepared to be uplifted and inspired as we navigate this noble profession together.

Want to know more? Here's what past participants have said about the Academy:

"I loved being able to ask personal questions in a safe and supportive environment."
"Good content, engaging sessions, I'll be coming back for more!"
"I felt inspired and encouraged throughout the day."
